About UsMountain Ash & District Choral Society is a mixed voice (SATB) choir that meets to rehearse every Wednesday evening in Mountain Ash. We currently have about 70 members from a wide spectrum of age groups. We're always looking for new members so if you'd like to come and join us then please get in touch with our secretary (see 'Contact Us'). We focus on performing one major concert per year, usually in May. This is typically a major choral work, such as 'Elijah' or a combination of shorter works. We enjoy the thrill of being able to sing with an orchestral accompaniment, today provided by the City of Cardiff Symphony Orchestra. We engage the services of professional soloists and over the 42 years of our history have produced some 'worthy' performances of oratorio and sacred choral works. In addition to our 'May' concert we also perform a Christmas concert with proceeds to charitable causes. In 2004, we became twinned with a French choir from Montélimar and this link has literally (and musically!) broadened our horizons. Many friendships have been forged and our association is a strong one. We're due to visit Montélimar again in 2008. In addition to rehearsing and performing we're trying to develop the social side of our Society. The Annual Dinner and associated Twmpath is always worth a look-in and we've enjoyed choir outings to as diverse activities as a 'From Scratch' Mozart Requiem at the Royal Albert Hall and a visit to see 'Pirates of Penzance' al fresco in St Fagans. Mountain Ash & District Choral Society is a Registered Charity No. 1048710 |
